The Belgian organization for human rights and development warned the Iraqi government to hurt protesters who went out against the deteriorated state of public services.
Abstract
BAMRO has raised a report to the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva regarding the violations committed against Iraqi protesters in the southern provinces. The results of the violations were:
•       Fifty (50) demonstrators were beaten by armed forces affiliated to the Iraqi government;
•       Twenty (20) protesters were arrested from Basra City;
•       And seven (7) protesters were arrested from Najaf city.
The degradation of public services, as the power cut to vital institutions that endanger the lives of citizens, has led these people to demonstrate peacefully against the government. The Iraqi government has also suspended Internet service.
The organization accompanied his report with documents justifying the attacks. It called on the Iraqi government to calmly contain these demonstrations and respond positively to protesters' demands. It called for stopping all violence against these citizens too.
Besides, the ten-page report included recommendations to the High Commissioner for Human Rights to intervene rapidly in order to release innocent detainees and stop these violations.
