Doha – Qatar | 4 November 2025

The Second World Summit for Social Development officially opened today in Doha, with the participation of heads of state, ministers, civil society organizations, and international institutions.
Our organization – the Belgian Association for Human Rights and Development (BAMRO) – took part in the opening session, reaffirming its commitment to defending human rights and supporting social development worldwide.

A historic moment: politics and humanity at one table

This summit is described as a historic milestone, as it brings together:

  • Political decision-makers

  • United Nations institutions

  • Humanitarian and human-rights organizations

  • Experts and civil society representatives

All under one shared vision: placing human dignity at the center of development.

No development without dignity. No dignity without justice.

Palestine and the reconstruction process

The Palestinian situation, especially the reconstruction of Gaza and affected areas, was a central point of discussion.
Our delegation called for:

  • International protection for civilians

  • A transparent reconstruction mechanism

  • Support for education, health, and infrastructure

  • Human-centered development for Palestinians

Speech by the King of Belgium

His Majesty the King of Belgium delivered an impactful speech, stressing that:

“Peace begins with the human being. Rebuilding Palestine is not a political choice, but a human responsibility.”
