Official Human Rights Statement by the Belgian Association for Human Rights and Development (B.A.M.R.O)

On the Conclusion of the Electoral Process in the Republic of Iraq
Brussels – November 2025

The Belgian Association for Human Rights and Development (B.A.M.R.O), which holds consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), has closely followed the recent electoral process in the Republic of Iraq, as part of its ongoing commitment to monitoring democratic and human rights developments across the Middle East and North Africa.

B.A.M.R.O commends the successful completion of the elections and the high voter turnout observed across polling stations nationwide. This broad participation reflects the citizens’ awareness and belief in the importance of peaceful political engagement in shaping the nation’s future.

The organization also praises the good organization and smooth conduct of the elections, as well as the remarkable level of security and logistical coordination that enabled voters to exercise their constitutional right in an orderly and safe environment.

B.A.M.R.O reaffirms that elections represent one of the key expressions of political rights enshrined in Article 21 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). Participating in elections is a fundamental democratic act through which the will of the people is expressed and respected.

In this context, the association calls for continued respect for the Iraqi Constitution and the integrity of electoral mechanisms, encouraging the strengthening of a culture of peaceful dialogue, accountability, and democratic governance that builds trust between citizens and institutions.

B.A.M.R.O further encourages enhanced cooperation between state institutions, civil society, and international partners to consolidate democratic experiences, promote transparency, and develop national capacities in electoral observation and civic participation.

The organization believes that the secure and successful conduct of these elections sends a positive message of hope—not only for Iraq but for the broader region—affirming that democratic transformation is possible through partnership, trust, and shared responsibility.

Finally, the Belgian Association for Human Rights and Development (B.A.M.R.O) reiterates its commitment to supporting national and international efforts aimed at strengthening democracy, protecting human rights, and upholding the right of peoples to self-determination in freedom and dignity.
