Iraq - Military attack and another massacre against peaceful protesters
On Wednesday, February 5, 2020, the militias of MUKTADA SADR, known by "The Owners of The Blue Hats", or "Peace Brigades" militia, suddenly and unnecessarily attacked the tents of peaceful protesters in SADRAIN Square in the centre of najaf city. The attack began in the evening around 5:30 p.m. According to witnesses and videos, masked people attacked the protesters' tents with burning bottles, causing the tents to set fire. These armed persons belonging to the MUKTADA SADR militiaattacked the demonstrators using bullets, knives, military grenades, and batons.
We call on the United Nations to establish an international committee to investigate these attacks and violations against peaceful protesters and bring those responsible to justice.
