International Day of Older Persons 2025: Dignity Beyond Age

On October 1st, the United Nations celebrates the International Day of Older Persons under the theme:

“Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being, Our Rights.”

The International Day of Older Persons was officially proclaimed by UN General Assembly Resolution 45/106 in 1990, with the first observance held in 1991. The year 2025 marks the 35th anniversary of this day, offering a crucial moment to assess achievements and address remaining gaps in protecting older persons’ rights.

BAMRO reaffirms its commitment to defending the rights of vulnerable groups, particularly older persons, and to working with partners to ensure that ageing remains a stage of dignity and contribution, not isolation and exclusion.
