A+ A-

Protests continue in Iraq.
At the same time as the gathering of the Human Rights Committee, our organization called for an emergency meeting to discuss the appalling situation in Iraq.
Our organization has included in its emergency report some realities documented by legal evidence. Among these violations:
1/ the threat of the 23 people: human rights activists and president of the rights centre through letters written by well-known persons belonging to influential parts of the Iraqi government;
2/ the murder and targeting of protesters in central and southern Iraq. The number of deaths is on the rise according to accredited government centres;
3/ the dismissal of protesters, particularly those working in the Ministry of Education, and even students from universities and students of different levels of education, who took part in these demonstrations, were excluded;
4/ the arrest of several protesters, even those who were injured during the demonstrations.
The crimes cited above constitute a serious violation of human rights standards and the Iraqi government's commitments to international rights conventions.
At the end of the day, we call on the UN Human Rights Committee in Geneva to hold an emergency meeting on 07/11/2019 to address these violations.
