Our organization has identified 1500 cases of poisoning in the province of Basra, which is located in the south of Iraq. The victim has informed our organizations that the hospitals of the city have been alarmed since 21.08.2018 after the arrival of 1500 cases of emergency departments within five hours.
Doctors in the emergency department have confirmed to our organization that the cases of poisoning return to the treatment of contaminated and polluted water and laboratory tests have confirmed that it is mixed with hazardous chemicals, our organization appeals to the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Health that they must intervene quickly to supply Basra hospitals with raw materials to meet their needs, medical supplies and first aid equipment, with the increase in the number of injured who exceeded the capacity of the emergency departments in the province of Basra.
Our organization also calls on the Iraqi government to conduct a quick and transparent investigation into the causes of poisoning and treatment.
The organization sent an urgent message to the Human Rights Commission in Geneva, accompanied by a number of documents and testimonies from the victims and called on the relevant committees to follow up on the issue and determine the merits with the increase in the number of wounded , that more than 1500 injured got to deal with a continuous increase.
