Urgent memo about the growing missile bombardment by mistake in Iraq

A+ A-

The Belgian Organization for Human Rights and Development has documented the Iraqi warplanes bombardment of a house by mistake, killing a family of ten people , including women and children; this was  dated on  March18th,2016. The house is located in the village of ‘Mahooz’, which is about 19 Kms  far away from ‘Alhoijah’ in the province of Kirkuk, north of Baghdad.

Immediately, our organization raised an urgent human rights memorandum to the High Commissioner for Human Rights to call him for the restoration of the rights of the victims’ families, and to face the Iraqi government with the necessity to eliminate the arbitrary bombarding  that  has been repeated substantially recently.

Not long ago, our organization also documented on January 8th, 2016, the bombing of warplanes to families that displaced from Diyala province, northeast of Baghdad, to the province of Kirkuk. There, their house was targeted on the wrong way too; which led to the killing of the whole displaced family immediately.

Our organization urged the High Commissioner for the United Nations in Geneva to push the Iraqi government to ensure the protection of civilians, especially those who are present near to conflict areas. Indeed, the war on terrorism should never be a legal justification for the rise in the rate of the arbitrary targeting of innocent people by the Iraqi army and the forces of the international coalition.
