Scabies  spreads throughout Basra schools and threatens all its inhabitants

A summary of  Human rights report in collaboration with the "Association of protection and development of the Iraqi family," allied with our organization:

A number of primary and middle schools in the city of Basra in southern Iraq, suffer from the spread of the contagious disease of "scabies" among pupils and students.

Indeed, schools have witnessed a rapid spread of the disease in the first two schools in the district of Abu Khassib (in the Iraqi province of Basra), the two schools are: - "Talaa Hamza" School and "Tunisia School" . After the infection, the disease started to spread among students in three new schools in "Mhajeran” area.

Other cases were recorded at “Albouchra school” for girls and “Alfajr Primary School” for boys and middle school “Marwa” for girls. Three days later, other students in "Ahmed Saleh" school in the same area were also affected.

Residents in Basra were remarkably afraid of the spread of the disease among all members of society given the fact that pupils and students are considered carriers of the disease. Meanwhile, inhabitants in Abe Khassib area and Mhajeran complained about lack of  mobility of local government and the Directorate of Basra Education and Basra Health Department who were all supposed to act immediately and rapidly to limit the rate of this contagious disease.

Media spokesman of  Basra Education, Mohammed al-Jabri, has denied the infection of any teacher  although  Dr. Veterinary Adnan Alaidani, Director of Basra Veterinary revealed that Basra Directorate had sprayed some of these schools with sterile Dettol, and that this product could not eliminate this disease because this is parasitic disease, the eradication of which requires other efficient strategies.

Captain Jawad Almryosh; the representative of teachers called local and international organizations to act immediately and rapidly to eliminate this disease at full speed, and urged the local government in Basra to take immediate and rapid action to eradicate this contagious disease, for fear of its propagation  in all the province of Basra.
