Murder of Iraqi journalist Hicham Faris
For more than 100 days and the Iraqi government with all its bodies, claims not to have used violence against civilian protesters. Protesters continue to exercise their right to protest in accordanise with international and national rights. International law organizations observe daily cases of injuries and murders among protesters, up to 82 deaths as of 07.10.2019.
This violence even affected the media and innocent journalists who were tasked with presenting the facts in a neutral manner. While the government appealed for the protection of civilians, journalist Hicham Faris was killed being shot in the head.
The Belgian human rights and development organization, in informing the human rights committee about this crime against Iraqi journalists, holds the Iraqi government responsible for the killing of civilian protesters and journalists. History will always remember these crimes and human rights will never disappear.
Our organization will continue to work with all international human rights organizations by pursuing the Iraqi government internationally until all this is over.
