Press release
The Belgian International Organization for Human Rights and Development issued a press release on 03/08/2018 about the end of the mandate of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (Zeid bin Ra'ad).
In the message:
The term of office of the High Commissioner (Zeid bin Ra'ad) will expire in the coming days and he will resign. During his tenure, not many human rights files have been brought to a successful conclusion, such as the case of the Yazidi women who were in danger for three years, in addition to the many other human rights files that have not yet been resolved and for which no effective solutions were found. . The High Commissioner (Zeid bin Ra'ad) admitted explicitly that during his period great pressure was exerted on him. We are surprised that he only announces this now, it would have been better to talk about it before!
Our organization looks forward to working with the new High Commissioner (Michelle Bachelet) to promote the comprehensive human rights agenda, including the strengthening of UNHCR in the United Nations General Assembly.
Our organization is also working to promote transparency in the selection of senior positions in the United Nations.
We also talked about helping the new High Commissioner to find quick solutions for all human rights files; to protect the High Commissioner against pressure that could impede her work in the service of human rights and support her in maintaining principles.
